Hicksville athletes left a mark on the Long Island football scene recently, winning the 10-year-old division of the Long Island Youth Indoor Football League (LIYIFL).
This is the first time a Hicksville football team has entered the LIYIFL. The team was made up of 10-year-old players from Coach Mario Escobar’s fall Crusaders team who were eager to play an extra nine weeks of football. They entered the highly competitive Long Island Youth Indoor Football League (LIYIFL), wearing jerseys donated by the Hicksville Football Association.
The team was led by quarterback Vincent Capuccilli as well as the fancy footwork by 10-year-old All-American running back Joshua Escobar. The front was contained by 2 time lineman of the year Connor Blyman. A 24-0 shut-out win in the playoffs against Commack placed the Hicksville football team against the power house team from East Islip who they had lost to 26-6 in week four. It was a tough defensive battle that was led by Anthony Sforza, Will E’Addy and Christopher Giordano, who managed to stop the Power split back offense of East Islip that had defeated the Crusaders earlier in the season. But by the end of the game the Hicksville football was crowned the 10 year old champions. The team was led by head coach Mario Escobar and Assistant Coaches Joe Accetta, Lenny Capuccilli, Jasper Charon and Rocco Sforza.
