A 36-year-old Mastic Beach man died after striking his head and falling off a forklift at his job in Center Moriches on Tuesday evening.
Suffolk County police said Santos Ortiz was operating a forklift at Kurt Weiss Greenhouses on Montauk Highway, when he lost control, hit his head on a metal post and fell to the ground at 6:10 p.m.
Ortiz was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified and Homicide Squad detectives are also investigating.
