Police and concerned residents are seeking help in locating a hit-and-run driver in Jericho.
According to a resident who chose to remain nameless, a dark blue 2014-15 Nissan Rogue jumped the curb on Rockland Drive, between Westchester Avenue and St. Lawrence Place, on March 27 at around 5 p.m. and struck and damaged two parked cars before driving over several front lawns and fleeing the scene. The resident said no one was hurt, but moments after the accident a school bus dropped off children close to where the incident occurred.
“Four or five kids were walking in that exact spot,” said the resident. “If the accident had happened a few minutes later, it could have been tragic.”
According to an eyewitness, the driver jumped out of her car, looked at her damage, then jumped back in and sped away.
The resident said the Rogue has extensive front-end damage. The cars that were struck received extensive damage according to the source. A young couple’s Toyota Rav4 was totaled, receiving more than $15,000 worth of damage. Another car, a Lexus, also received several thousand dollars worth of damage.
A neighbor who witnessed the accident describes the driver as a woman age 40-55 with dark hair and a medium height and build.
If anyone recognizes the vehicle pictured, call the detective at the Nassau County Police Department’s second precinct at 516-573-6254.
