Jericho High School topped all other Long Island public high schools as it recently achieved third place in a ranking of the 100 best public high schools in the state by Niche, a research site that rates schools based on community reviews, opinions and hard data.
The school also placed 16th in a national ranking by the same online organization. According to the website, “a high ranking indicates that the school is an exceptional academic institution with a diverse set of high-achieving students who rate their experience very highly.” Jericho was ranked on academics, health and safety, student culture and diversity, teachers, resources and facilities, extracurriculars and activities, and sports and fitness.
Jericho achieved “A+” grades in academics, teachers and extracurricular and activities; an “A” grade in Health and safety, resources and facilities and in sports and fitness; and a “B” grade in student culture and diversity.
“We are so proud of our students and staff, whose dedication and efforts contribute to our accomplishments,” said Jericho High School Principal Joan Rosenberg. “The fact that Jericho High School has open enrollment and is open to all residents makes this accomplishment so outstanding.”
Syosset High School also received outstanding ratings, notching 18th in New York state. Syosset received an “A+” grade in academics, teachers and extracurriculars and activities; an “A” grade in health and safety and resources and facilities; a “B+” in sports and fitness; and a “B-” in student culture and diversity.
This isn’t the first time Jericho High School has pulled an impressive ranking. In an overview of high schools last year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Jericho 71st nationally and 13th in New York. Syosset, meanwhile, ranked 158th nationally and 32nd in New York, in the World Report ranking.
Other local districts that made the Niche list were Great Neck South High School (7), Manhasset Secondary School (10) and Mineola High School (51).
