A 53-year-old man was killed when he crashed his motorcycle into the back of a tractor-trailer in his hometown of Holtsville on Tuesday night.

Suffolk County police said Leonard Mastro was riding a 1976 BMW motorcycle westbound on Long Island Avenue when he hit the back of a tractor-trailer that was turning right into Bissett Nursery shortly after 8 p.m.

Mastro was ejected from his bike, which was dragged under the truck and caught on fire, police said.

The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he died Wednesday morning.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Rhondle Carlton Day Jr., of North Carolina, was not injured.

Sixth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information on the crash to call them at 631-854-8652.
