The Schreiber High School Student Council sponsored the annual Battle of the Bands on Friday night, April 17, at which local student bands battled it out to get a spot on the PortFest main stage. Five bands performed and around 200 students and parents attended.
From an a capella all guys group, “Fireside Chat,” to “Dirty Dan and the Pinheads,” there was a lot of serious competition. The winner of the Battle of the Bands was an 80’s cover band, “Gag Me With A Spoon,” that brought audience members to their feet. Damon Gersh, Chairman and Founder of HEARTS, awarded the trophy and a certificate to perform at PortFest to the winning band.
PortFest will take place on May 16 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on the Schreiber High School campus. For more information about PortFest, go to www.portfest.org.
