Olivia Moss of Port Washington, a sophomore at Kellenberg Memorial High School and a member of St. Peter’s Girl Scout Troop 432, is working towards her Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project, entitled “PassPORT,” is a booklet containing special discounts to Port Washington restaurants.
“The goal of the program is to encourage Port Washington families to introduce their children to a variety of cultures through food, while at the same time supporting local businesses,” explained Moss.
Families can take their “PassPORT” booklets to participating restaurants to enjoy special offers including free kid’s meals, free kid’s desserts and discounts. Restaurants will stamp the “PassPORT” so kids can keep track of the different foods they’ve tried. Families may return their “PassPORT” booklets to be entered into a drawing to win a book of kid-friendly international recipes and an assortment of Girl Scout Cookies.
The program was announced to restaurants via email from the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce. Space was limited to only one restaurant per type of cuisine. Restaurants who expressed interest met with Moss and Mariann Dalimonte, executive director of the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District (BID), to discuss the program. Nine restaurants are participating in the “PassPORT” program: Aki, Ayhan’s Shish-Kebab, Bosphorus Café and Grill, Dolce, Dynasty, iDiner, Rosso Uptown, Sullivan’s Quay and Yummy Gyro.
Copies of the “PassPORT” booklet are available in the Children’s Room at the Port Washington Public Library and at the PYA Clubhouse at Lion’s Field, while supplies last. To download a “PassPORT,” visit www.portwashingtonbid.org. The PassPORT program runs from May 1 to July 31.
