This past fall, the eighth grade team from Manhasset Middle School’s English Department was honored by the New York State English Council. The team received a “Program
of Excellence” award. This award is presented to exemplary English Language Arts programs, which support creative instruction and learning, and that have been in place for at least three years.
The award was presented in Albany at the 64th annual Conference of the New York State English Council, a professional association of educators in English Studies, Literacy and Language Arts.
In addition to receiving this prestigious award, given to only six programs in New York State, the eighth grade team was invited to present at the organization’s annual conference. The title of their presentation was “Exploring Character Development with Charles Dickens and the Common Core.”
