Cinema Arts Centre Film Festival

cinWEB

Film buffs are invited to the ninth annual First Exposure Student Film Festival at the Cinema Arts Center in Huntington today at 4 p.m.

Curated by professional filmmakers from the Suffolk County Film Commission, this is an hour-long exhibition of the “best of the best” high school short narrative, documentary, and animated films from the Long Island Media Arts Showcase at Five Towns College in Dix Hills.

Hundreds compete, but only a handful make the cut. Hal Hartley (Henry Fool, The Unbelievable Truth), Fred Carpenter (The Blue Lizard), Michael Cuesta (L.I.E., TV’s Homeland), and Alexandra Brodsky (Bittersweet Place) all got inspired by their suburban environment and the films they saw at the Cinema Arts Centre. Perhaps one of these talented students will follow in their footsteps? Past winners have gone on to prestigious college film programs and have been featured at the Hamptons Film Festival.
