A 79-year-old man was fatally struck by a car driven by an 85-year-old while he was crossing Hempstead Turnpike in his hometown of Levittown over the weekend.

Nassau County police said Frank Ilardi was walking northbound across Route 24 at the corner of Grassy Lane when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he died five hours later.

Homicide Squad detectives inspected the vehicle and did not find any criminality on behalf of the 85-year-old driver.
