A video telling the story of Port Rowing has won the 2015 Telly Award for excellence in Television Production. The video was created by MeyerMix Productions of Port Washington to help Friends of Port Rowing get out its message about the benefits of the rowing program within the Port Washington community and beyond.
The video, titled “Port Rowing: One Stroke, One Boat, One Goal,” was honored by the Telly Awards for excellence in Film & Video in the category of “Non-Broadcast Productions – Public Relations”. The video can be viewed on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/kJ19dovM0iI.
The Port Rowing video tells the story of the birth of the Port Rowing program, as well as the benefits of the program, through interviews with the founders, coaches, parents and rowers. In the video, Founding Member Monika Dorman wonders, “Why don’t we have a rowing team?” especially in light of the fact that we live in this seaside “paradise,” as she calls it. The answer came partly from Mitch Tamkin, now President of Friends of Port Rowing, and Steve Panzik, now former Head Coach of the program. This trio formed a committee, along with other members, and the program soon took off.
Watching the Port Rowing video, you truly get a sense of the passion behind this program. The Telly Awards have honored this video for its portrayal of the Port Rowing program and the ability of this video to tell the Port Rowing story and promote the program in a positive light.
With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this year’s Telly Awards has been one of the most successful and competitive in the long history of the Telly Awards. Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and web commercials, videos and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.
MeyerMix Productions is proud of this honor. It took a great deal of time to produce, shoot and edit the Port Rowing video, which shines a light on the Port Rowing program. The video is even more poignant in light of Port Rowing’s current achievement, with its Women’s Lightweight 4 boat just earning the right to compete in the US Rowing Youth Nationals Competition in Sarasota, Florida from June 12-14.
