Pop Rocks Powder Horns and Tricorns
Oyster Bay is rich in Colonial history and the Oyster Bay Historical Society has a surefire craft to ignite your child’s imagination. Kids will create and build their own powder horn and tricorn hat with inspiration from real 18th century powder horns from the society’s collection. With Pop Rocks instead of gunpowder, these keepsakes will be a blast to make. Begins after school, 3:45-5 p.m. Suitable for grades kids in third and fourth grades. $15 per child with all supplies and healthy snacks provided. Space is limited. Summer Exhibition Reception
Hats Off!, the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s summer exhibition, opens with an evening preview reception from 6 to 8 p.m. in the society’s Angela Koenig Center at 20 Summit St. in Oyster Bay. The exhibition will remain on view through Sept. 13. Hats Off! An Assembly of Extraordinary Headwear from the society’s collection features men’s and women’s hats from the 20th century, along with athletic gear and military helmets. Overdose Prevention Seminar
A free overdose prevention seminar will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Christ Church of Oyster Bay in the Parish Hall, at 61 Main St., Oyster Bay. Residents will learn how to administer the lifesaving antidote known as Narcan and reverse the fatal effects of an opiate overdose. No prior medical experience is necessary to participate in the training. All trainees will receive a certificate of completion. Residents must pre-register either by emailing elaikin@nassaucountyny.gov or by calling 516- 571-6105.
