A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in his hometown of Central Islip early Tuesday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Officers who responded to a report of a shooting found the victim, Jonathan Cardona-Hernandez, lying on Nicholl Avenue south of Messina Street at 5:50 a.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about the case to call them at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
