Hadassah Honors Mandel

On Wednesday, July 15, Hadassah members gathered at the home of Peter and Dorette Forman in Sands Point for dinner and cocktails to recognize and show appreciation to Jack Mandel. Mandel was honored for his dedication and service to the Jewish community. Kay Smith cochaired the event with the Formans. The festive event was catered by H on The Harbor, which also donated a portion of their services.

Known as “The Bead Man,” Mandel is president of Har-Man Importing, one of the world’s largest distributors of beads and rhinestones. The company specializes in Swarovski Elements and Czech glass beads. In 1975, Mandel and his wife Joyce along with daughter Alisa moved to their first home in Port Washington. Joyce passed away in 2011. Mandel remains an active member of the community. He is currently the President of the Community Synagogue, in addition to holding many volunteer positions on several civic organizations.

Founded in 1912, Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is the largest women’s, Zionist and Jewish membership organization in the United States. In Israel, it supports medical care and research, education, and youth institutions and reforestation and parks projects. In the US, Hadassah promotes health education, social action and advocacy, volunteerism, Jewish education and research, Young Judaea and connections with Israel.
