Nearly 50 nonprofit leaders from Port Washington came together on July 14 at Finn MacCool’s to meet, network and share ideas. It was the first meeting of the PORT Nonprofit Roundtable, a newly formed group whose purpose is to connect the many nonprofit organizations in town. Organizers Julie Meer Harnick, Amanda Khalil, Laura Mogul and Paula Whitman called the kickoff event a huge success.
“It was so inspiring to see so many of our nonprofit leaders come together to learn more about each other and support each other’s missions,” said Khalil, copresident of the Parent Resource Center and cofounder of PORT Nonprofit.
Representatives from the nonprofits introduced themselves, described their missions and networked. The leaders also shared important upcoming dates via a communal calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts, which has been an issue in the past among the organizations.
“There is so much opportunity for shared professional development, resources and other collaborations,” said Meer Harnick, executive director of the Community Chest of Port Washington. “The most exciting thing for me is the opportunity to network, share and learn from one another. PORT Nonprofit is a chance to work together to make lives better for all the people of Port.”
Plans are underway to continue the conversation. Anyone who is associated with a Port Washington-based nonprofit group is welcome to participate in the online community by joining PORT Nonprofit on Facebook. To add events to the shared calendar, email portnonprofit@gmail.com. A free social media workshop is being planned for the fall.
