As part of its “Bring Change” campaign, TD Bank’s Penny Arcade served as a designated hub to support local residents the Shine family. This past “Green Friday” TD invited people to participate in a community coin counting event and fundraiser with TD matching up to $2,000 in coins counted. A total of $2249.67 was donated to Shines.
The event took place at TD Bank’s 5555 Merrick Road location. Barbara Shine is one of the bank’s customers.
The Shine family has been a very special part of the Massapequa community. Barbara Shine is very involved in the PTA, and her two daughters are well-rounded and dedicated students. A few weeks ago, Mr. Shine passed away suddenly. It has been a struggle for the family both financially and emotionally. Mrs. Shine works two jobs — including being a full-time parent to her girls.
Barbara said she has been receiving an abundance of support from his neighbors, family, and friends since this horrible tragedy. And she was very grateful and felt blessed to have such support in a very difficult situation. The funds will be used in a positive and responsible way (paying bills, funeral costs, needs of the children, etc.), having a profound impact.
With 500 Green Friday events planned through February 2016, this program promises to raise more than $1 million in support of local organizations.
