Former Mineola Mayor Edward S. Smith died on Sept. 6, Mineola village officials announced this week.
Smith was the loving husband of Evelyne Smith for 67 years. He founded Smith & DeGroat Real Estate in 1944, which still operates today. He also is the name sake for the Edward Smith Mineola Lions Club.
Smith leaves three sons, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edward S. Smith Mineola Lions Club Blind Fund and can be sent to 27 E. Jericho Tpke., Mineola, NY 11501.
