Local Runners Score In Junior Triathlon

The “main event” Runner’s Edge-Town of Oyster Bay Triathlon was on Sunday, but for nearly 200 youngsters ages 8 through 13 and their parents, the Saturday, Aug. 29, Runner’s Edge-Town of Oyster Bay Junior Triathlon was way more important.

The young triathletes traversed a 200-yard swim in Oyster Bay harbor, followed by a 2.5-mile bike ride and a one-mile run, all within the confines of Oyster Bay’s Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park.

Top finishers were 12-year-old Maxmillian Deleon of Westbury and 13-year-old Hadley Clayton of Huntington, but lots of youngsters from the local area did very well indeed, led by 13-year-old Johnny O’Connell of Woodbury (11th place) and including 10-year-old Colby Santoro of Bayville (22nd place), 9-year-old Miklos Argyelan of Bayville (39th place), 12-year-old Sean O’Toole of Oyster Bay (42nd place), 11-year-old Ryan Sylwester of Locust Valley (46th place), 11-year-old Giavanna Villella of Locust Valley (50th place), 10-year-old Elisia Gallo of Mill Neck (53rd place), 10-year-old Akena McManus of Bayville (54th place), 11-year-old Emily Curry of Cove Neck (57th place), 12-year-old Francesca Castellano of Oyster Bay (71st place), 11-year-old Laine Denatale of Locust Valley (73rd place), 11-year-old Virag Argyelan of Bayville (80th place), 8-year-old John Herbig of Bayville (87th place), 11-year-old Michael Barbera of Oyster Bay (90th place), 8-year-old Tyler Marshall of Woodbury (92nd place), 8-year-old Dylan Sylwester of Locust Valley (95th place), 12-year-old Ryan Maselli of Bayville (99th place), 12-year-old Vimala Alagappan of Oyster Bay (116th place), 8-year-old Jonah Santoro of Bayville (120th place), 8-year-old Quintin Martin of Oyster Bay (122nd place), 9-year-old Brendan O’Brien of Oyster Bay (18th place), 9-year-old John Barbera of Oyster Bay (129th place), 9-year-old Quentin Castellano of Oyster Bay (132nd place), 10-year-old Samuel Montovani of Oyster Bay (135th place), 9-year-old Colin O’Toole of Oyster Bay (136th place), 13-year-old Isabelle Curry of Cove Neck (143rd place), Matthew Carlinsky of Oyster Bay (144th place), 9-year-old Jake Panetta of Oyster Bay (145th place), 11-year-old Christian Msaelli of Bayville (161st place), 9-year-old Olivia Gallo of Mill Neck (163rd place), 8-year-old Abigail Maselli of Bayville (165th place), 11-year-old Dante Castellano of Oyster Bay (171st place) and 12-year-old Brianna Baugh of Oyster Bay (173rd place).    

“Thanks go to all the volunteers from the Greater Long Island Running Club and to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto,” said Mike Polansky of the Greater Long Island Running Club. “The staff of the Oyster Bay Parks and Public Safety Departments did a great job of giving lots of local youngsters a great experience.
