Mustang Cup A Hit

Mustangcup_091615AThe Mineola Mustang Cup took place at Mineola High School and saw players, fans and coaches enjoy exciting soccer on Sept. 4 and 5, with the Locust Valley Falcons taking home the cup at the tourney’s end. The Mustangs welcomed Locust Valley, Oyster Bay and Lynbrook to the season opening contests. The tournament opened Mineola taking on the Locust Valley Falcons. After a close game, the deciding factor was left to penalty kicks.

Mineola was denied a chance to tie in penalty kicks as the Locust Valley goalie made a tremendous diving save to secure the victory for the Falcons.

In Saturday’s contest the Mustangs took on the Lynbrook Owl’s. Lynbrook led the game until the Mustangs took control with 10 minutes remaining to score two goals within 4 minutes and take a 3-2 lead as Luis Tinoco scored the tying goal and Andrew Ariza put in the go ahead.

The team defended well for the closing minutes and secured their first win of the season.

Mineola All-Tournament honors went to Brandon Mendes, Luis Tinoco and Flavio Anjo. The Annual Mineola Soccer Alumni game was held following the cup finals. More than 40 former Mustangs took part in the game as family and friends cheered them on.
