Golf Grabs First Win

The Mineola Mustangs’ Golf team team captured their first win of the fall season recently, defeating Glen Cove 7.5 to 1.5. James Graf led the Mustangs with a round of 46 at Nassau Country Club. Other match winners included Chris Shannon, Sean Lanfair and William Carr. John McMahon also scored in the victory.

The team has evidenced good progress since a season opening defeat at the hands of a highly ranked Roslyn squad.

Mustangs Top Hicksville

The Mineola Mustang Golf Team captured their second victory of the fall season with an exciting 5-4 win over Hicksville. Chris Wiercinski and Chris Shannon led the squad with winning rounds of 41 and 46, respectively, at the Eisenhower Park Blue Course. Although the Mustangs only won two of the six individual matches, they were able to best their opponents in overall strokes by the narrow margin of 245/247. This provided the team with the additional three points required for victory.

Mueller Shines For Farmingdale

The Farmingdale State College men’s and women’s cross country teams recently competed at the LIU Post Invitational, where Mineola native and freshman Chris Mueller shined as a freshman. The men’s team finished 7th out of 13 teams in a field comprised of Divsion I, II, III and Junior College teams.

The men’s team was led by junior Belony Borange who had an outstanding performance with a 23rd place finish in a time of 29:10. He was followed by freshman Franklin Turcios (who ran 31:40, while Mueller was third for the Rams with a personal best time for an 8k of 31:45.

The women’s team finished in 14th place. Sophomore Nicole Franz led with a strong performance finishing in a time of 22:36. In second for the Rams was sophomore Jennifer Bonilla at 24:47 and in third was sophomore Ellen Kim at 25:22.
