The Recycled Artwork Contest is a chance for students to harness their creativity to promote recycling in schools and local communities in an effort to better the environment. The Town of North Hempstead (TONH) invites young minds to come together and collaborate with one powerful message in mind: recycle, reuse and rethink. Submissions for the Recycled Artwork Contest are due by Nov. 30.
The Recycled Artwork Contest features hundreds of entries and thousands of participants. All students in grades K-12 in TONH school districts or who live in the town are welcome to participate in the contest. The opportunities are endless. Each student must use reclaimed, recyclable materials made of metals, paper, rubber, plastic or cloth (no glass). All artwork must be labeled and entered by Nov. 30.
Entries will be judged by the North Hempstead Arts Advisory Committee. This year, the winners of the Recycled Artwork Contest will be honored at The Gold Coast Arts Center on Monday, Dec. 7, at a special ceremony at 6 p.m. and all entries will be displayed from Dec. 7 through Jan. 1, 2016, in the gallery at The Gold Coast Arts Center.
Very important new details are:
• All artwork should be delivered directly to the The Gold Coast Arts Center, located at 113 Middle Neck Rd., Great Neck. It must be accompanied by a release form.
• All entries (unless prior arrangements are made) become the property of the TONH.
• Make sure entries are limited in size to 60 inches high by 30 inches tall. If you would like to propose a different size please contact the office of sustainability.
• The annual “Trashion Show,” which evolved as an offshoot of the art contest, has blossomed into a huge success. Look for the information on this event in the next few weeks.
