The Lions Club of Great Neck was invited to the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center in Glen Cove for a docent-led tour of the museum and a program on how tolerance and anti-bullying is taught.
The group was welcomed by Chairman Steve Markowitz, who explained how the center was founded by a small group of Holocaust survivors and has now grown to a preeminent Long Island resource for the teaching of the history and lessons of the Holocaust.
The tour of the museum was led by an incredibly knowledgeable docent. She had so much information that the time constraint frustrated both guide and the group. The Lions Club definitely want to go back for a longer tour.
Tracy, a member of the staff, described the programs that are run for schools, which are geared for the specific age of the children attending the classes. She also gave a tour of the state-of-the-art classrooms, the entire building, and the magnificent grounds, which included the Children’s Memorial Garden.
Secular and religious schools are invited to participate in museum tours and programs. Families are welcome to tour the incredible facility on their own as well. Everyone should visit this beautiful, moving and educational facility.
