The Town of North Hempstead is seeking experienced musicians to join the newly formed Yes We Can Community Band.
Every Thursday, beginning Nov. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., band members will get together for practice in the gymnasium of the Town of North Hempstead’s Yes We Can Community Center. The goal is to have the band play at the Christmas Tree Lighting at Yes We Can on Dec. 22, and at the Black History Month celebration in February.
The band will be led by Michael Carpenter, former band director for Westbury High School. To participate, musicians must be 12 or older, have their own instrument and music stand, and be able to read music. Percussion, woodwind and brass players are welcome.
The Yes We Can Community Center is a state-of-the-art 60,000 square foot facility, which features two NBA-size basketball courts, a fitness center, dance studio, senior and teen lounges, as well as community meeting rooms, is located at 141 Garden St. in New Cassel.
