Players from the LSW Astros baseball team recently held a clothing drive to help the boys save for a trip to Cooperstown in July.

Bags of clothes were gathered at player John John Lozito’s house in Seaford. The boys earned 20 cents per pound for every bag donated, with a whopping 3,500 pounds collected at the end of the day.

“It is always good to give to people in need,” said player JT Raab.LSW_102815B

Residents, friends and teammates were encouraged to donate bags of clothing for a month to be dropped off at Lozito’s home. Others also dropped off items at the snack stand at MacArthur High School, which also held a fundraiser.

“We handed out flyers to neighbors and family and they dropped off clothes so we can give to the poor, but we also get some money to go to Cooperstown,” said Lozito.

On Monday, Oct. 19, the players loaded all of the bags into a moving truck, which took the donated items to those in need.

“We enjoyed helping people in need,” said player Anthony Vaughan.

“Giving people clothes helped us get money for our team,” added player Joseph Tetro.

Special thanks goes out to fundraiser coordinator Gina Lozito, who put the event together and donated her driveway for the bags.

“It was a win, win for all,” she said.
