Enrollment for the Great Neck Public Schools Universal Prekindergarten Program (UPK) for the 2016–17 school year will begin Friday, Nov. 6. This program is offered to all district residents at no cost. In order to be eligible, children must be 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2016.
The UPK program is housed primarily at the Parkville School, 10 Campbell St., New Hyde Park. Morning and afternoon sessions are available. Bus transportation is provided to and from the Parkville School for either the morning or the afternoon session. In compliance with the New York State Education Department, some students can attend the district’s UPK collaborative agency, Great Neck Community School, 225 Schenck Ave. Transportation is not available to or from this location.
UPK registration will be held schooldays at the Office of Registration and Attendance, located in the Phipps Administration Building, 345 Lakeville Rd., from Friday, Nov. 6, to Friday, Nov. 20. Children can be registered from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the following schedule: Last names starting with the letters A–E, register on Nov. 6 or 9; F through J, on Nov.10 or 12; K through O, on Nov. 13 or 16; P through T, on Nov. 17 or 18; and U through Z, on Nov. 19 or 20.
No placements will be made until the end of the registration period, so it’s unnecessary to register ahead of time. If you haven’t received a registration packet in the mail, download the registration forms from the district website at www.greatneck.k12.ny.us.
Be sure to bring the following documentation to registration: proof of district residency (deed, current tax bill or closing statement of ownership, current signed lease or current rent receipts); three pieces of current, official mail—online mail is not acceptable; child’s original birth certificate; parent or guardian’s valid photo ID; parental control papers (if applicable); and immunization certificate signed and stamped by a physician or an authorized health agency. It’s not necessary to bring your child to registration.
