A 40-year-old woman was found dead in her hometown of Sagaponack six weeks after she was reported missing, Southampton Town Police said.

Hunters called police to report they had discovered a body in a heavily wooded area in between Sprig Tree Path and Toppings Path at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

The woman was later identified as Lilia “Esperanza” Aucapina, who was reported missing Oct. 10.

Her remains were taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine her cause of death.

Her death is not believed to be criminal in nature, investigators said.
