This year’s Park Commissioner election will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 9 p.m. and all Great Neck Park District residents are encouraged to vote. The Park District has three commissioners, each of whom is elected for a three-year term. One commissioner spot is up for election each year on a revolving basis. The Park Commissioner elected on Dec. 8 will begin on Jan. 1, 2016.
Four districts have been established for Park District elections and each has a separate polling location within its boundaries. Residents should vote at the following polling places in their district.
• Park Election District No. 1: Vote at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave.
Includes Nassau County Election Districts 1 through 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11 (to the extent that 6 and 11 County Election Districts are in the Park District) and encompasses The Village of Kings Point, Saddle Rock Estates and those areas of the Village of Great Neck which are (a) east of Middle Neck Road and north of Hicks Lane and (b) west of Middle Neck Road.
• Park Election District No. 2: Vote at E.M. Baker School, 69 Baker Hill Rd.
Includes Nassau County Election Districts 9, 10, 12 through 14 and encompasses that area of the Village of Great Neck, east of Middle Neck Road, the unincorporated area of the Town of North Hempstead south of the Village of Great Neck and north of the Village of Kensington.
• Park Election District No. 3:
Vote at Great Neck Social Center, 80 Grace Ave.
Includes Nassau County Election Districts 17 through 23 and 28 and encompasses the Villages of Great Neck Plaza, Thomaston and Kensington.
• Park Election District No. 4: Vote at Manhasset-Lakeville Firehouse #4, Jayson Avenue & Northern Blvd.
Includes Nassau County Election Districts 24, 26, 27, 29, 30, 33, 70, 106 (to the extent that 30, 33, 70 and 106 County Election Districts are in the Park District) and encompasses the Village of Russell Gardens and the following unincorporated areas of the Town of North Hempstead which are (a) Great Neck Terrace apartments; (b) Lakeville, Upland, Lake Success Hills and Manor sections of Great Neck and (c) all other unincorporated areas bounded by Great Neck Road on the north, Northern Boulevard on the south, Middle Neck Road on the east and Great Neck Road on the west.
All persons 18 years of age or older, who have resided in the Great Neck Park District for a period of 30 days prior to the election and are registered with the Nassau County Board of Elections from their Great Neck Park District address for at least 23 days prior to the election, are eligible to vote.
In an effort to meet the special needs of Park District residents, the Board of Commissioners will provide absentee ballots for the upcoming election. Applications for absentee ballots are currently available at the Park District Office, 5 Beach Rd. and Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave. Any resident unable to pick up an application should call 516-482-0181 to have one sent by mail. Those residents registered with the Nassau County Board of Elections as permanently disabled will automatically be sent an absentee ballot at the address shown on the Nassau County Board of Election roll. The application contains complete instructions on who is eligible to vote and how to file. If the ballot is to be mailed by the voter, the last date to file the application for an absentee ballot is Dec. 1. If the ballot is to be picked up at the Park District Office by the voter or his/her duly authorized agent, the last date is Dec. 7. For questions, call 516-482-0181.
