Ridge Man Admits Killing Girlfriend, Shooting at Cops

A Ridge man has admitted to shooting and killing his 36-year-old girlfriend before barricading himself in their apartment with his two children and shooting at responding Suffolk County police officers two years ago.

Jose C. Rodriguez pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder and attempted murder during a pretrial hearing at Suffolk County court.

Prosecutors said the 34-year-old gunman shot his girlfriend in the head and then fired several shotgun rounds at responding officers who found the victim’s body in the street near his “Brookwood at Ridge” apartment on Village Drive on Nov. 17, 2013.

Police negotiated the release of Rodriguez’s two children—Sellitto was not their mother—and Rodriguez eventually surrendered after a 90-minute standoff, authorities said.

Judge William Condon is expected to sentence Rodriguez to 30 years to life in prison on Jan. 8.
