Through North Middle School’s overwhelmingly successful fundraiser, Have a Heart—Dare to Care, students sold enough heart-shape lollipops that they were able to buy toys for State Senator Jack Martins’ Winthrop University Toy Drive. With the Student Community Organization’s Dare to Care Winter Warmth and Toy Drive, students and staff also donated toys and winter clothing to support the Interfaith Food Pantry sponsored by St. Aloysius Church.
Martins visited the school to pick up the toys and personally thank the students for their efforts. All the toys collected by the students were delivered to children in Winthrop University Hospital.
“Great Neck North’s students really demonstrated what the holiday season is all about: bringing joy to others through the spirit of giving. They’re not just giving the gift of toys—they’re giving the gift of happiness to many children and their families during their time of need. They did a wonderful job, and I appreciate all their efforts,” said Senator Martins, who is flanked by North Middle students holding some of the toys they collected and teachers Michelle Mastrande, Hedda Blitz and Debra Manoff.
