In the wake of winter storm Jonas, who dropped more than two feet on Manhasset this weekend, schools and rails screeched to a halt. The Port Washington branch which was scheduled to resume service at 7 a.m. Monday remains suspended. Commuters who can get to the main line in Mineola can get to New York, otherwise, commuters must telecommute.
The expressways are clear, but secondary streets are challenging. Traffic should be directed to main streets were plowing has cleared the roadway. Residents are encourage to keep your vehicles in your driveway so plows can clear roads. Given the significant amount of snow and the snow drifts, the clean up will take time.
People are still digging out. This morning Munsey Park Elementary School was not plowed though there was walking access to the front door.
Most activities are cancelled today. It is recommended you call in advance to see whether the facility is open. Please remember to shovel out fire hydrants so that first responders can quickly get to water.
