M. Cyril Morris

The Morris Family, residents of Manhasset since 1968, and recently of Port Washington, announced the passing on Wednesday, Jan. 6, of M. Cyril Morris. Cyril is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Christina D. Morris, two sons, Geoffrey (Janet) and their children Ashley and Nicholas, who reside in Cape Town, South Africa; and Dr. Stephen Morris (Hope) and their two sons, Elliot and Calder, who reside in Seattle, WA. Cyril celebrated his 90th birthday on May 1, and was in good health until being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September. Cyril was a well-known commercial photographer in New York and notably involved in international travel. He served in the Army Air Corp as a draftee in 1944 and finished his service as a radio operator. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and started his career as a stringer for United Press International and the Associated Press. His early love of travel was launched as ships photographer for Holland American Lines and SAS Scandinavian Airlines. Striking out on his own as a freelancer, his diverse clients included airlines, tourist offices and press trips to the major capitals of the world. On a more local level, his clients included real estate and constructions organizations, such as William Levitt and the Lefrak Organization, as well as having developed a reputation for his aerial photography of expansive construction sites via helicopter. His work appeared in Life Magazine, The New York Times and local media throughout the tri-state area. He will be missed.
