Members of the Manhasset CASA Youth Club explore ways to help their peers learn more about the dangers of underage drinking. In an effort to understand how to reach fellow peers about the dangers of alcohol, Manhasset High School’s CASA Youth Club recently met with Sarah Haikin, a senior at Half Hollow Hills East (HHH) High School and National Teen Influencer for Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Long Island. The group learned about MADD’s Power of Youth prevention program as a possible tool in the prevention of underage drinking.
Peer-to-peer education is extremely important, however, parents have the greatest influence when it comes to underage drinking. Children whose parents talk regularly about the dangers of underage drinking are 42 percent less likely to drink alcohol (NYSOASAS Talk2Prevent).
