Hampton Street Elementary School recently had a visitor and guest presenter. Dr. Michael Nagler, Superintendent of Schools, came to the cafeteria to acknowledge over 76 pre-K through second grade students with a certificate and pencil.
During the holiday vacation, these students took the principal’s reading challenge and read at least one book each day during the vacation. The students recorded the books on a calendar that they handed in to their teacher when they returned to school.
Hampton Street staff heard many wonderful comments about how the reading challenge brought families together and instilled confidence in the readers. Families also appreciated the list of age appropriate books that was attached to the letter.
It was a wonderful activity for both parents and students.
Mrs. Anderson plans to present the student body with another reading challenge over the winter break in February.
