Suffolk County police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide in Middle Island that occurred over the weekend.

Officers responded to a 911 call to check the welfare of the residents of a Summersweet Drive home, where they detected a gas leak, and found 54-year-old Fahriye Ugan dead and her 41-year-old her husband, Erdem Gulay, suffering from stab wounds at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The officers ventilated the house. Gulay was taken to a local hospital, where he died the next day from what the police said were self-inflicted injuries. Investigators said his wife was murdered.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 631-852-6392.
