Irish Soda Bread

This recipe comes from Joan Boes, Westbury resident and village deputy mayor.

Cookup__SIDEBAR
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 tspn baking soda
1 tspn salt
1 ½ sticks butter
1 ⅓ cups buttermilk
1 cup raisins (can be combination of raisins, golden raisins and currants)

Combine all dry ingredients and raisins.

Melt butter and add to dry ingredients. Add buttermilk. Mix well with hands.

Place in greased loaf pan. Bake in 350 degrees pre-heated oven for one hour or until golden brown on top.
