Aside from providing a fix for television junkies desperate to binge watch episodes of their favorite network shows, streaming services Netflix, Amazon and Hulu also offer a fair share of critically acclaimed original programming. With quality filming, knockout performances and engaging stories, streaming services are forcing the big networks to rethink programming.
Here are three must-stream shows on Netflix, Amazon and Hulu:
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Netflix
Created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock (30 Rock), this Netflix original follows ever-optimistic cult survivor Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) as she navigates her new life in New York City. Costarring Jane Krakowski, Emmy-nominated Titus Burgess and Carol Kane, Kimmy fully embraces quirky comedy with a controversial edge. Binge season one now, the second season drops on April 15.
The New Yorker Presents
Amazon
There hasn’t been much fanfare for this series of 12-minute documentary snippets pulled from the pages of The New Yorker, but the program might be the most compelling and interesting currently offered by Amazon. Helmed by Kahane Cooperman, former producer of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The New Yorker Presents brings to life the human-driven stories and articles from the magazine.
11.22.63
Hulu
Adapted from a novel by Stephen King and produced by J.J. Abrams, this sci-fi thriller sends James Franco back in time in an attempt to stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This high-concept drama is packed with all the bone-chilling twists we’ve come to expect from King, along with the Abrams’ trademark “mystery box” style of storytelling.
