Looking for a unique summer day camp experience? Then check out the Science Museum of Long Island on the Leeds Pond Preserve in Plandome Manor.
Since its founding 50-plus years ago, The Science Museum of Long Island has offered hands-on, interactive and innovative science programs to more than a half-million young people. Children enrolled in the museum’s summer science camp are engaged in the study of science. The activities provide children with ample opportunity for good old-fashioned hot-weather activities and summertime fun. SMLI’s Summer Camp 2016 will run from July 5 until Aug. 26. Each week features a different scientific theme, allowing parents to register children for individual weeks of their choosing, for a month or for the entire summer.
Teenagers interested in a Counselor-In-Training (Assistant Counselor) program can participate as well. CITs are campers but also serve as mentors to younger campers and even receive a stipend at the end of the summer for doing so.
Interested in learning more about the SMLI Raiders? The Raiders group is the museum’s traveling “camp without borders,” and is restricted to campers in fifth grade and up. Raiders Week will take place during week six (Aug. 8-12), and includes an overnight stay at the museum, all transportation costs, admissions fees to all venues and meals when away from the SMLI grounds. Meticulously planned and carefully chaperoned trips to exciting new venues are in store for the Raiders.
Discounts for siblings, multi-week registration and for museum members are available.
