A public hearing will be held on April 19 to amend the uniform traffic code of the Town of North Hempstead’s Port Washington Parking District. The board and public will discuss the proposed changes, and then the board could vote. If there are unanswered questions, the hearings could continue to another meeting.
The purpose of this law is to amend the fee charged in shopper parking lots and to authorize parking district personnel to modify parking space designations without board of commission approval.
The new fees are as follows:
• Daily parking vouchers will increase from $1 to $2, and monthly vouchers will go from $20 to $30. There is no increase in the annual parking fee of $240.
• The cost for registering cars will be $25 for the first car, $45 for the second car and $150 for the third car registered at the same home. The new policy will prohibit registering more than three cars at the same address. Our goal is to increase the availability of parking for all residents.
• Meter rates for on-street parking will be 25 cents for
each half hour, in line with other municipalities on
Long Island.
These changes will allow the district to continue the investment in technology and infrastructure improvements, and represent the first increase of any kind in parking fees in the past 15 years.
