The Port Washington Association of Girl Scouts held their Annual Sweetheart Dance on April 2. In past years, the Sweetheart Dance was held as a square dance. This year the chairs of the event, Maria Casey, Kellie Cucunato and Cari Gatto, decided to go another route by inviting Dancing Classrooms to instruct the Girl Scouts and their escorts. Over 100 Girl Scouts with their sweethearts attended the event and were instructed by Katie de Bruin and Jana Oelbaum from Dancing Classrooms to learn how to perform the basic steps for the meringue, swing and foxtrot. The group ended the evening with a group line dance to a pop song.
The Sweetheart Dance has been held at St. Stephen’s Parish Hall in past years. Because of an increase in the number of younger elementary school age Girl Scouts and the popularity of the Sweetheart Dance, the association decided to move the dance to the larger Polish American Hall space to accommodate the larger group. A fun evening was had by all.
Girl Scouting in Port Washington is partially funded by the Community Chest of Port Washington.
