When someone is suffering physically or mentally, the most important thing is to make them feel loved, needed and beautiful inside and out. That is where the cancer care program Mondays at Racine comes in.
Back in February, Monroe Dean Salon of Massapequa was recognized for their support of the Mondays at Racine Cancer Support Initiative, a nonprofit, which provides complimentary services and supportive therapies to cancer patients. Oyster Bay Town Clerk James Altadonna presented a citation to the staff of Monroe Dean Salon in honor of their ongoing support and last week, Erika Cole by Raquel Salon in Syosset, got their turn.
“I was fortunate enough to be given a second chance in my life. I had someone come in and help me, essentially saving me, and from that point forward I decided that I was going to give back,” said Carolyn Devito, founder of Erika Cole by Raquel Salon. “After meeting Cynthia and Rachel, and learning about how they were helping people going through such a detrimental time in their life, I knew this was perfect for my staff and I.”
Erika Cole by Raquel Salon recently announced that they too will have services one Monday each month, opening their doors to provide complimentary beauty and wellness services for those undergoing treatment for cancer. Services include haircuts, head shaving, scalp treatments, wig care and cosmetic lash and brow services.
“We’re excited for Erika Cole by Raquel to join the Mondays at Racine family,” said Karla Waldron, executive director for Mondays at Racine Cancer Care Foundation. “Carolyn and her team are an excellent addition to our growing Charter Salon program on Long Island, giving those dealing with cancer another place to go for treatments, support and a smiling face.”
As the newest charter salon of the Mondays at Racine Cancer Care Foundation, Erika Cole by Raquel hosted a ribbon-cutting event at their Syosset location, followed by a special screening of the Academy Award nominated HBO short documentary, Mondays at Racine. The founders of Mondays at Racine Cancer Care Foundation, Cynthia Sansone and Rachel DeMolfetto, were there for a short question and answer session after the screening.
“Being able to provide support through beauty treatments to someone who is suffering makes them feel pretty in a time of a huge crisis; to me that’s the ultimate way of giving back,” said Devito.
