“This exhibit is a culmination of the hard work these students have done throughout the year,” said art teacher Gale Domingo, who teaches the course. “Students have to create a 24-piece portfolio that includes 12 pieces that are part of a concentration or deeper level artistic theme and 12 other pieces that shows ‘breadth,’ which portrays their skill and knowledge of art in a medium of their choice. The pieces are put into a portfolio and submitted to the College Board for grading.”

Domingo said her AP class has been a “wonderful environment where students collaborate, are motivated and inspired by each other,” noting that more students than ever plan on studying art and design in college with students accepted to noted schools such as Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

In addition to the exhibit, AP students recently met with 150 Berner Middle School art students in the Honors by Achievement program to give them some perspective about the high school art program and its AP opportunities, according to Beth Adler, Massapequa’s K-12 Art Chairperson.
