Budget Hearing

Movie: The Big Short
The Bar Harbour auditorium will show a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie The Big Short. In 2008, Wall Street guru Michael Burry realizes that subprime home loans are in danger of defaulting and bets against the housing market by throwing investors’ money into credit default swaps. His actions attract the attention of banker Jared Vennett (Ryan Gosling), hedge-fund specialist Mark Baum (Steve Carell) and other opportunists. Together, they make a fortune by taking advantage of the impending economic collapse in America. Starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling. (2015; R, 2 hrs 10 min).

Come in and enjoy a game of Scrabble from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Bar Harbour meeting room.

Teen Takeover Mondays
Every Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., teens get to take over the auditorium. Enjoy open play with video games on Wii U and XBOX 360, play Minecraft, check out the collection of board games and hang out with friends every Monday in the Bar Harbour auditorium. AARP Defensive Driving
Come reduce your insurance by taking a defensive driving class from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bar Harbour auditorium. Fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. The Late Movie: Miss You Already
The Central Avenue library children’s room will show a 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie Miss You Already. This comedy-drama chronicles the relationship of lifelong best friends, Jess (Drew Barrymore) and Milly (Toni Collette). Complications arise when Jess, who has been living a free-spirited existence, decides she wants a baby and begins to envy the life of Milly, a career woman with a family. In rapid succession, Milly is diagnosed with cancer and must battle for her life while Jess discovers she’s finally pregnant. These life-changing events cause the friendship to be tested as they attempt to deal with the joy and sorrow in their lives. Starring Paddy Considine, Dominic Cooper and Jacqueline Bisset. Based on the book by Jennifer Lackman. (PG-13, 112 minutes).

Summer Reading Program Volunteers Needed
Applications for the Plainedge Library’s summer reading program are now available in the children’s department for Plainedge School District students entering grades 6 and up. No previous volunteer experience necessary. Community service credit furnished upon request. In order to effectively schedule volunteers in time for the summer, all applications need to be submitted to a children’s librarian by Friday, May 13, the latest, no exceptions.
