The Great Neck Democratic Club will be hosting a debate among the five Democratic candidates running for Congressman Steve Israel’s seat in the Third New York Congressional District on Tuesday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave.
A number of outstanding individuals have stepped forward to seek the Democratic nomination, including attorney Jonathan Clarke, former Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, North Hempstead Councilwoman Anna Kaplan, Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern and former Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.
The campaigns are well underway and almost all of the candidates have raised significant amounts of money to fund their races. A very important primary election will be held in June to select the party’s candidate in the general election in November. Whoever wins the Democratic primary will most likely face Republican State Senator Jack Martins.
The moderator of the debate will be Larry Levy, well-known former Newsday columnist and frequent television political commentator.
So that the community can learn more about the candidates and their views, the debate at Great Neck House will be open to the public at no charge. Following the conclusion of the debate, a straw poll will be conducted to gain a sense of the community’s preference. Only members in good standing of the Great Neck Democratic Club will be eligible to vote. Dues may be paid and new members may join that evening.
If you are able to volunteer some time to assist that evening, it would be greatly appreciated. Contact the Great Neck Democratic Club at gndems@yahoo.com.
