A 72-year-old Speonk man was killed when the vehicle he was a passenger in was involved in a crash with a street sweeper in the Remsemberg-Speonk area last week.
Southampton Town Police said Grace Larson, 72, was driving a Hyundai northbound on Speonk-Riverhead Road when she rear-ended a street sweeper just south of Sunrise Highway at 10:21 a.m. Thursday, May 12.
Her husband, Larry, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a shortly later. The driver was taken to Brookhaven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said Grace was unable to see through the dust cloud kicked up by the street sweeper when the crash occurred.
New York State police motor carrier investigators responded to the scene for a safety check of the sweeper. Authorities did not charge either driver.
