The Port Washington Public Library held a Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip RV and Pop-Up Book Festival on Saturday, May 7. The event was cohosted by The Dolphin Bookshop & Café.
Authors on-site at the library included Beth Ain (Starring Jules), Elisha Cooper (Train), Kristin Earhart (Race the Wild), Emily Jenkins (Upside Down Magic), Kody Keplinger (The Swift Boys and Me), Carolyn Mackler (Best Friend Next Door), Michael Northrop (TombQuest), K.E. Rocha (Secrets of Bearhaven), Eliot Schrefer (Spirit Animals), Natalie Standiford (The Only Girl in School) and Jude Watson (Loot).
Kids and families had the opportunity to participate in their very own “pop-up” reading festival, meet some of their favorite authors and illustrators, and engage in fun reading activities.
The RVs will visit more than 25 cities nationwide throughout the summer, traveling more than 10,000 miles to spread the message about the importance of summer reading to kids.
At the event, the authors read and signed their books; there were giveaways, prizes, activities, animated photo stations, costumed characters and an animated photo station with Clifford the Big Red Dog and Slappy from Goosebumps.
