Syosset Schools Add Multiple Math Medals

Syosset High School and South Woods Middle School totaled 25 medals at the Long Island Math Fair recently held at Hofstra University. Eighteen students won medals in the high school competition, including 10 gold, five silver and three bronze. The medal winners are: Hannah Abraham (gold), Jahnavi Arora (gold), Maximillian Chen (gold), Jillian Goldberg (gold), Jack Grunberg (gold), Andrea He (gold), Daniel Israel (silver), Sophia Jang (silver), Neil Johari (gold), Thomas Lam (bronze), Kevin Li (gold), Wanlin Li (silver), Arjun Mehrotra (gold), Aileen Park (bronze), Yash Samantaray (gold), Jacquelin Tang (bronze), Richard Tang (silver) and David Wang (silver). All of them studied under math fair adviser John Chae.

The middle school competition produced seven medals, including three gold, one silver and three bronze. Individual honors went to Julia Klimberg (silver), Yan Luo (gold) and Giselle Rasquinha (gold), while the seventh-grade teams of Kiersten Louie and Amanda Qian (bronze), and the eighth-grade teams of Merin Thomas and Victoria Guo (gold), Archisha Datta and Yvette Sol (bronze) and Patrick Chen and Jishaan Alam (bronze) all placed for their respective collaborations. Students at the middle school level studied under advisers Heidi Pasternack and Nancy Zagajeski.
