Town honors late detective Brian Moore

The Town of Oyster Bay community came together once again to honor the late Detective Brian Moore with a life-size statue memorial at the town’s Plainedge Park on May 21. The Plainedge police officer, named detective posthumously, was slain in the line of duty on May 4, 2015, and a little more than a year later, his family, friends and community are still trying to heal.

“Brian Moore was one of the nicest people I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing and attending Plainedge High School with. It gives me great pleasure being a part of the Plainedge community during this time,” said Jennifer Sheehan, Moore’s friend. “The Plainedge community raised money over the last year to create a statue in his honor as well as having the athletic center at Plainedge Park named in his memory.”

The plaque below the statue details the kind, selfless and giving person Moore was, on and off duty.

The last line on the plaque reads, “Brian will forever be a true American hero.” Moore has definitely been solidified as the face of Plainedge, a community that is beyond proud to have known and loved him.

“Now the community will always remember our hometown hero and the sacrifice he made to protect others,” said Sheehan.
