John L. Bartunek (pictured below, center) was recently installed as the 35th chief of the Westbury Fire Department by his brother, ex-captain Gary Bartunek, and with his two sons by his side. John has been an active member of the department for the past 31 years, having risen through his company ranks. John looks forward to having the Westbury Fire Department training staff provide the required and ever increasing hours of instruction to the membership. “Training is the number one priority which will enhance the firefighting skills of our department to be second to none,” he said.
At the ceremony, the assistant chiefs were also installed. Second assistant LaShaun Carr and 1st Assistant Kenneth Gass, Jr. (pictured below) both took their oaths of office.
