Bob Cook of the Runner’s Edge and race director Debbie Blair of the Greater Long Island Running Club are ready to welcome the runners on July 9.

The course will take the runners on a scenic 5K route through the streets of Farmingdale before finishing on the track at Farmingdale High School. The Runner’s Edge will return as the title sponsor of the run, with Bob Cook and his team collaborating with the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) in one of the signature events for both organizations.
Thanks to the generosity of the Runner’s Edge, cash prizes totaling $2,850, headed by $500 for the first finisher overall, will be distributed amongst the first three finishers overall, the first finishers in every age group from 20-24 through 80 plus, the top Athena finishers and the top race walkers. You must be either a United States citizen or a permanent resident of Long Island to be eligible to win a cash prize.

Runners from the Massapequas have done especially well in the Long Island Women’s Run over the years. In 2015, a bevy of strong local runners was led by Victoria Kornieva-Robitaille of Massapequa Park, who was the seventh finisher overall and first in the 25-29 age group, Angela Cruz of Massapequa Park, who was 29th overall and took fourth place honors in the 35-39 age group, and Monica Enright of Massapequa, who scored in 36th place overall and earned the fifth place award int he 50-54 age group.

Every entrant in the 5K will receive a top quality technical shirt especially designed for women.

GLIRC’s Debbie Blair will once again be serving as the race director, computerized scoring and results will be provided by Nikita Dorcinvil of Just Finish, Inc. and the 5K Run will once again serve as the Women’s 5 Kilometer Championship of the Long Island Association of USA Track & Field.

The 5K will be preceded by the free “Little Women’s 1/4 mile Fun Run” for future Olympians under the age of 12, and each finisher in the Fun Run will be presented with a medal when she crosses the finish line.

Proceeds will once again be distributed to The Opening Word, a program administered by the Dominican Sisters that provides English language skills and job skills to poor, uneducated immigrant women on Long Island.

Register online at www.glirc.org or call 516-349-7646 for hard copy entry forms or for more information. Day-of-race entry is $30.
