The Plainedge Association of Girls Scouts and the Hardscrabble (Farmingdale) Association of Girls Scouts met on Tuesday, June 14, Flag Day to celebrate our flag and the life of Port Authority Police Captain Kathy Mazza. They met in the Mazza park in Farmingdale where they were greeted by members of the Port Authority and New York Police Dept. and Mrs. Rose Mazza. The girls learned about Kathy, that she was the first female Police Captain in the Port Authority and was killed saving over 300 people when she shot out glass windows and doors in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. 2001. They also learned about folding the flag and flag etiquette.
The canine division came and did a presentation and the girls learned what is takes to be a female police officer. Each girl received a participation patch and made new friends in surrounding towns. Their community spirit showed no limits that day.
